One drawing, start to finish

What happens
to your file.

A drawing with the usual mistakes, taken through every stage by the CutMeter engine. Every number here was computed when this page was built.

  1. 01

    The file arrives

PLATE-07.DXF, as it came from CAD: 12 entities. One corner stops 0.05 mm short, the bottom edge is drawn twice, the arch is a spline, and a centre mark left a 0.3 mm dot.

  2. 02

    Measured

630.91 mm of cut and 5 pierces. The arch is measured along the curve, the doubled edge is counted once.

  3. 03

    Checked

4 problems, each numbered on the drawing. The outline is open, so the plate's area cannot be counted: 805 mm² instead of 11,126 mm².

  4. 04

    Fixed

Auto-fix closes the corner, removes the second edge and writes the spline as arcs: 5 closed contours, 630.93 mm of cut. The dot stays flagged, a person decides.

  5. 05

    Priced

50 parts priced from the shop's own rates, €1.20 per metre and €0.10 per pierce: €100.79 excluding VAT. Example rates, not market prices.

  6. 06

    Cut

The shop confirms the price and the date, then cuts from the checked file.

From the customer's file
to the shop's machine.

Both sides work on the same measured file. The customer sees the problems before sending, the shop receives drawings that are ready to cut. The price the shop confirms is the one that counts.

How accurately does your software read a DXF file?

Laser shops price parts by cut length and pierce count, and these come straight from the DXF the customer sends. If the software reads the file wrongly, the quote is wrong too, and nobody notices until the machine cuts.
